World Wide Knit In Public Day

Did you step out and knit in public today? Sile from Knit-One-One had 60 or so folks with pointed sticks and yarn knitting on Adeline St this morning. It was an incredible site to behold. The plum tree out front is still wearing some of the creations.

Erik

On Sunday, Erik, one of our assistant managers, heads south to participate in the AIDS Ride. He has been training for months for the ride. He has challenged himself physically and mentally to achieve this goal. I hope to emulate his courage in my own life. Enjoy the moment in the saddle, Erik!

New Ovens

When we opened the shop, we did everything on a shoe string. The only equipment that we bought new was the refrigeration, and eventually the espresso machine. Everything else was old, very old. It was a concious decision.
But recently our ovens have been acting up, and the repair bills have been astronomical. Parts have to be rigged to work--- It is terrifying to have a bakery and not know if an oven is going to be accuate, if it is going to hold it's temperature, if it is going to stay lit.
Last week I made the decision to buy a new unit. On Sunday, Mother's Day, both of our old units kept going out and running slow. I was then reassured that I had made the right decion to invest in new equipment. Our new Montague Vectaire convection oven was delivered and installed today. Tomorrow it will bake for the first time in our little shop.

Malcolm X Kindergarten Classes

For the past two Mondays, we have been host to a bevy of kindergarteners. They troop through the storerooms and the kitchen exclaiming about what they see. Already these kids are so full of their own personalities. Their teachers are so dedicated, and so full of good humor. I am not certain how they do it. My hat is off to them.

Third Year Anniversary

We opened our doors three years ago on Easter Sunday, March 27th.There have been many changes and achievements and a good many regrets. But the doors are still open, and I hope welcoming to the many people of the neighborhood and beyond who hanker for a slice of pie and a smile. Thank you one and all for making Sweet Adeline a vibrant neighborhood shop. Thank you all.

Vogue Knitting

Sweet Adeline is mentioned in the Spring/Summer issue of Vogue Knitting. The wedding cake pictured for Michelle and Jaume was executed by both Kelsi (yarn and needles) and Juli (cake finishing). Sabrina Gschwandtner of the zine Knitknit wrote the piece. She had a book signing at the shop last fall. Sile of Knit-One-One organized the event.

Sam, Deb, and I are all so excited that we are signed up for Kate's beginning knitting class at Knit-One-One.

Rhubarb

Pink rhubarb is back. We are pairing it with strawberries in tarts, making lattice crusted pies, and streusel topped muffins. Come in for the vegetable (yes, it is) that heralds spring to all northern bakers.
